We had one of those bitter-sweet moments at the weekend, waving goodbye to Maisie Squibb as she heads out to Vass for the summer. Having taught her as a beginner back in 2010, she has blossomed into a fantastic windsurfer AND instructor herself, with her trainer commenting on her being “the best 16 year-old” on a Start Windsurfing Instructor Course he had ever coached back in 2011. We know that whilst she will be sorely missed by us all here in Weymouth, she is going to have an amazing summer and fit right in in Vass.
So whilst Maisie is away, there are some new kids on the block. Well actually, some have been with the OTC cutting-the-mustard for quite some time, but there is lots of up-and-coming talent to follow in Maisie’s tracks. This is Lily Young and Scotty Stallman sporting their new team rider hoodies with Tris after another mega day on the water. Sun is out, wind is up and water is getting warmer (albeit slowly). And these young rippers are training hard to retain the School Games Windsurfing Cup for West Dorset, the championships of which are on the 27th June. Watch this space for more news about this bunch – there will be lots!
