Here is a Press Release from SailRacer:
“The sports taster sessions for the summer festival of sail – GJW Direct’s SailFest – have now been released for booking. Over the 4 days of the event, from Friday 23rd to Monday 26th August, over 600 slots are available to try a new sport or refresh a skill learnt years ago. Windsurfing, paddlesports, sailing, mountain-biking and rock climbing are on offer.
All the sports are being run by the on-site partners at Weymouth & Portland National Sailing Academy, so these sessions give a taste of what is on offer at the Academy all year round. For the August Bank Holiday weekend, activities are being offered for just a nominal booking fee, to a maximum of £22. Costs and session lengths vary depending upon activity, ranging from 90 minutes to half a day.
Weymouth College will be running 90 minute paddlesports sessions in the harbour in front of the Academy building, but also rock-climbing and mountain-biking out on the stunning natural terrain of Portland itself.
As Alex Sergison, the Adventure Academy Manager, says “Portland has more than just world class sailing going for it. It is also a natural playground for a whole variety of adventure sports. Weymouth College is proud to be able to offer this opportunity and look forward to helping you experience this beautiful island.”
Not wanting those racing to feel left out of the fun on the shore, it is planned that racing can be completed early each day to enable the sailors to try something new themselves, or enjoy time with family taking part in the activities.
Saturday evening sees a charity Duathlon (on water & bikes) with a special inter-club watersports challenge on Sunday evening. The days are capped off with a hog roast on Saturday at WPNSA and a meal at RYA Portland House which you can see through this site and get the facts – Palm Beach Roofing Expert about its roof building (home of Team GBR in 2012) on Sunday.”
