On the 28th and 29th of April, the British Slalom Association (BSA) roll into Weymouth town and park up on the doorstep of the windsurfing centre in the grounds of the WPNSA - the Official Test Centre (OTC).

The centre has gone through a fantastic rejuvenation over the winter with the collaboration of Puravida Boardriders, a retail outlet from South Wales, to bring the very latest 2012 kit from all the major brands to fingertips of the centre's clients. To celebrate the joint venture, the weekend's event doubles up as a the centre's main open day, with £5.00 taster sessions available throughout the weekend and a FREE hog roast for all the BSA competitors on Saturday evening (£5.00 to all others). Fully fuelled, everyone at the event will then be welcomed to a massive party in the Academy's hangar, with DJs mixing in between the sets of the live band - The Cheap Shots - a reputed local band covering popular anthems.

Wind permitting there will be racing throughout the weekend, for the Master Blasters, Amateur and Pro Fleets, yet plenty of other activities will be organised should the wind not materialise. One thing is for sure, it is a weekend not to be missed!

Kevin Greenslade to Head New Venture
It's with great pleasure that The Official Test Centre and Pura Vida announce that Kev Greenslade is going to be the man holding the reigns as the Centre Manager of their new venture.

Kev has been a well known name on the slalom and speed circuits for many years now. Having enjoyed national and international success on raceboard in the 90's, Kev has gone on to secure a further two British titles in 2010/11 at Weymouth Speed week. Yet on the Weymouth windsurfing scene he is one of the most friendly and approachable characters on the water, so was an obvious choice … if he could be poached from his day job!

Asked about his move, Kev said, "After spending 20 years working in the aerospace industry, it is like a dream come true to have this opportunity, especially working with two of the most proactive energetic guys in the industry. I look forward to helping others at all levels of our sport and spreading the OTC / Pura Vida love. See you on the water!"

Jim Brooks, from Pura Vida comments, "We've been sponsoring Kev for more than two years now and know just how passionate he is about the sport, so have been talking about putting a plan into action for quite a while. He's perfect for the job and provides a real focal point for impartial informed advice in everything to do with windsurfing. We just can't wait to get going."

Tris Best, from OTC UK added, "Kev has always been a great support since we opened the UK centre in 2010, so to have him as a colleague now and working with him to help push the sport in the area is really very exciting. His ability on the water is matched by his modesty and willingness to help - he's an inspiration to lots of the guys in our Team 15 club, so we're sure to produce some great young windsurfers under his watchful eye in the future!"

OTC UK Powered by Pura Vida Boardriders
The Official Test Centre (OTC) are very pleased to announce a new and exciting partnership with South Wales based shop Puravida Boardriders at their UK centre for the start of the 2012 season.

The OTC concept, where all the major windsurfing brands are housed under one roof, allowing visitors to test and compare the products side by side, has proved to be a massive success in both the Tenerife and UK centre, and with the new partnership established, the concept is sure to be propelled to the next level this season. With significant investment injected into the very latest equipment, and more initiatives to be announced just around the corner, the UK centre will become the thriving windsurfing hub that Portland Harbour deserves to play host to. This year will see almost double the equipment available for customers to use, complimenting the centre's RYA recognised school offering courses for beginners to advanced riders.

Speaking about the partnership, Tris Best, co-founder of The OTC said, "We've always tried to distinguish The OTC, and what it stands for, apart from your typical windsurfing centre, school or shop. It's a totally unique resource where you can come and gain a valuable insight into how each product performs from your own perspective. It is a concept that has challenged convention and broken boundaries for the consumer market with overwhelming response, yet has presented its own challenges when managing the equipment from a retail point of view. We are on the verge of a significant breakthrough that will crystallise the true values of the concept in many people's minds, and joining forces with someone as motivated and passionate as Jim Brooks

at Puravida will help immeasurably. The time, money and effort Jim puts into the sport in the UK is clear for all to see, with a thriving windsurfing community in South Wales and the largest fleets ever recorded in the British Wavesailing Tour with his contribution last year. Puravida Boardriders have committed to put the latest boards and sails into the UK centre's rack, and it is sure to be an incredibly exciting year. Just hope we don't steal the thunder of the Olympic Games!"

Jim commented, "The Weymouth and Portland area has long offered great windsurfing conditions that anyone from families to Olympic Champions can enjoy, and with the OTC at the fantastic facility of the Sailing Academy the opportunity to get into the sport has never been better! I'm very keen to see the sport grow and feel that by joining forces with the OTC to support such a great concept and facility is a very exciting prospect and holds a great future for our business."

OTC UK, powered by Puravida Boardriders, will be opening its doors for 2012 on the 31st March.

Speedsailing Sensation

Kevin Greenslade was the 2010 Weymouth Speedsailing Champion, and defended his title equally well last year. He has recently been spotted on his home waters of Portland Harbour on a top secret speedsailing mission that has got his peers both baffled and dumb-struck in awe. RYA supremo Sam Ross managed to catch up with Kev to try and understand the fury he was unleashing on the water.

Windy February!

This has got to be one of the most consistently windy winters Tenerife has experienced in years. It is certainly one of the windiest we can remember. At the start of the month we were battered with gusts over 50knots. Everyone that dared to venture out grabbed the smallest sail they could find ... and even then it was rarely small enough. Here are some shots from Andy Hobbs of Adam in Cabezo on 5th February, using a 3.3m!

You can also read Andy's account of his trip to El Médano by reading the Barry Blog (BWA) here.

Adam has also found time to edit a quick film from his evening sailing done this month. You can see it by clicking on Andy's shots on the right. Thanks very much to Andy for use of the shots and his kind words on the blog.

For the last four seasons OTC Tenerife's prices have been completely inflation proof. Despite the significant increase in equipment costs over the last half decade and the extra difficulty in turning the kit over, we have maintained the same prices in our centre in El Médano.

We're afraid we can hold off no longer, so will be putting our prices up a little from the middle of next month to help us

re-stock the centre with all the very latest 2012 kit. We're announcing the price rise now to give you a little bit of warning so that you can take advantage of our latest offer.

Book your kit hire before the 13TH FEBRUARY and avoid the price rise. For more information on how to book in, get in touch with us via email, or telephone.
