What a great weekend of weather to bring the 2014 BSA Series to a close, ending the tour on a high here in Portland Harbour. So many stories and highlights to mention – record number of entries into the Amateur Fleet … Si Cofield winning the Pro Fleet … local hero Kev Greenslade rounding off the year in second overall … and Tom Wells more than holding his own in the Pro Fleet, wining top youth for 2014. But the best story for us has to be the fantastic turnout of new, young talent coming through in the slalom discipline. We had eight young sailors from the area enter the event, with Sam Anstey bringing home the bacon in the Masterblaster, closely followed by Reed Russell, Alex Blackmore and Lily Thomas. In the Amateurs, we have to give special mention to Scotty Stallman, who at 13 years old was well on the pace and undoubtedly a name to watch. Lily Young was immense as well, coming 19th out of 33 … whilst Alex Jones also did himself proud, coming 25th in his first ever windsurfing event! A full list of the results can be seen here.
Despite being the end of the BSA season, the fun doesn’t stop here. Over the weekend we organised some dates for the NWF Winter Slalom Series hosted with us here at the OTC. The following dates have been plugged in:
The format for each weekend is a training day on the first day, followed by racing on the second day. Leading up to each scheduled weekend, if the forecast looks poor we will roll the event over to the following weekend. If that weekend’s forecast is also poor, we will cancel that month’s event, and look forward to the following month’s scheduled weekend. More information is to follow, but in the meantime any queries, just get in touch with us.
